Why Convert Word to PDF?

Word documents look different on every machine — fonts substitute, spacing shifts, and layouts break when the reader doesn't have the same fonts installed. PDF locks the layout: what you see when you convert is exactly what the recipient sees, on any device, forever.

What Gets Preserved

• Fonts — embedded in the PDF so they render identically even without the original font installed
• Tables — cell borders, merged cells, shading, and column widths preserved exactly
• Images — inline and floating images remain in position at original resolution
• Headers and footers — page numbers, company names, date fields all render correctly
• Tracked changes — accepted changes are reflected; unaccepted changes are shown or hidden per your Word settings

How Server-Side Conversion Works

Our converter uses a headless Chromium renderer (the same engine as Chrome) to open your Word document and render it to PDF — the same process as printing to PDF, but server-side. This gives pixel-perfect output because Chromium handles all font rendering, layout, and pagination exactly as a desktop browser would.

LibreOffice-based converters can produce inconsistent results with complex table formatting, multi-column layouts, and non-standard fonts. Our Chromium renderer avoids these issues.

When Word-to-PDF Conversion Gets Tricky

• Macros and VBA — run macros in Word first, save, then convert
• Password-protected DOCX — unlock in Word first, then upload
• Revision marks — accept or reject all tracked changes before converting for a clean output
• Embedded objects (Excel charts, Visio diagrams) — rendered as images; update the embedded file first if needed

After Converting

After converting, run through Compress PDF if the file is large — Word documents with high-resolution images can produce PDFs over 10 MB. UseMerge PDFs to combine multiple converted documents into one.
